Executive Board Position Description

Includes President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer: serves to manage the affairs and strategic oversight of the Florida Association of Genetic Counselors (FLAGC): a non-profit organization with the mission to advance the professional interests of genetic counselors practicing within the state of Florida by providing educational, training, legislative, & business development resources. The Executive Board is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization.


To that end it: 

● Determines how FLAGC will carry out its mission through long- and short-range planning 

● Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight 

● Recruits, orients, and develops board members 

● Evaluates its performance and overall performance of FLAGC in achieving its mission 

● Establishes policies for the effective management of FLAGC 

Position Title: President and President-Elect

Length of Term:4 years - June 1 to May 31

President:
The President’s role is to oversee all activities and helps lead the decision making of the organization. The President leads all Board meetings and serves as an advisor to FLAGC’s Committees. The President works closely with the President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary.

President-Elect:
The President-Elect is the equivalent of a Vice President and is there to assist the President with all tasks and activities. The President-Elect will assume the Presidency after their two year term as President-Elect.

Responsibilities: 

● Understand and promote FLAGC’s mission 

● Supports and oversees FLAGC’s programs, policies, and operations 

● Attend monthly board meetings and appropriate committee meetings 

● Monitor FLAGC email account and respond to inquiries
Time Requirement (approximate): 

● Attend and actively participate in at least 90% of the board meetings (~12 hours per year)

● Attend and actively participate in the annual conference

● Attend special events (2-5 events per year recommended)

● Time commitment per month estimated to be 4-12 hours depending on organizational needs


Position Title: Secretary

Length of Term: 2 years - June 1 to May 31

The Secretary is responsible for record keeping of the organization. They organize the agenda for our meetings and keep track of meeting minutes. The Secretary also oversees our new membership applications on our FLAGC website and maintains our membership lists. The secretary may also be responsible for minor updates to the FLAGC website.


Responsibilities: 

● Understand and promote FLAGC’s mission 

● Supports and oversees FLAGC’s programs, policies, and operations 

● Attend monthly board meetings
Time Requirement (approximate): 

● Attend and actively participate in at least 90% of the board meetings (~12 hours per year)

● Attend and actively participate in the annual conference

● Attend special events (2-5 events per year recommended) 


Position Title: Treasurer

Length of Term:2 years - June 1 to May 31

The Treasurer’s role is to oversee the financial administration of the organization. They advise the board on financial strategy, perform financial reporting to NSGC, and advise on fundraising. They provide a budget for the Annual Education Conference as well as for grants and other projects.


Responsibilities: 

● Understand and promote FLAGC’s mission 

● Supports and oversees FLAGC’s programs, policies, and operations 

● Attend monthly board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
Time Requirement (approximate): 

● Attend and actively participate in at least 90% of the board meetings (~12 hours per year)

● Attend and actively participate in the annual conference

● Attend special events (2-5 events per year recommended)
