FLAGCFLORIDA ASSOCIATION OF GENETIC COUNSELORS |
Florida GC Licenses expired December 31, 2023 if they were not renewed. Visit www.FLHealthSource.gov to view your license status and apply for renewal. The next renewal will be December 31, 2025.
The Division of Medical Quality Assurance no longer prints and mails licenses. They now issue electronic licenses, which enables a licensee to download a PDF copy of their license within two business days. The license can be retrieved in the License Documents menu of their MQA Online Services Portal account. To learn more, you can visit the electronic licensing webpage at https://flhealthsource.gov/electronic-licensing/.
Historical Licensure Information
FLAGC previously held a webinar on October 9, 2023 that outlined the renewal process for the December 31,2023 renewal. These slides are now considered outdated as the process has changed for 2025 so please do not refer to them for the 2025 renewal process. Updated slides will be published in October of 2025. Please contact FLAGC at FLAGC@FloridaGenetics.org with questions.
When did Florida begin issuing licenses for genetic counselors?
Effective July 1, 2021 the Florida Department of Health began issuing licenses for genetic counselors, and every genetic counselor who practices or sees patients in Florida was encouraged to apply for their license.
What do I do if someone is calling themselves a genetic counselor who is not a genetic counselor?
Along with requiring a license to practice genetic counseling in Florida, the bill provides title protection for "genetic counselor," which means only individuals holding a license as a genetic counselor can use the title. If you are aware of a Florida healthcare provider (e.g., a physician or nurse practitioner) using the title of "genetic counselor," please notify the Florida Department of Health using the form here: https://www.floridahealth.gov/licensing-and-regulation/enforcement/_documents/complaint-form-2015.pdf
